Abstract
Using plant populations of "Smooth Cayenne" pineapple of 12, 1000, 18, 150 and 36, 300 plants per hectare, it was found that increasing plant density reduced leaf number and lodging increased plant height; it decreased the number of suckers produced per plant.
Thinner peduncles occurred on denser plantings but peduncle length was not affected.
Flowering and fruit maturity occurred earlier and total fruit yield increased but fruit size declined with increasing plant density.
Percentage total soluble solids in fruits was not affected but fasciation in fruits was reduced.
