Abstract
Dipping in hot water at 50–55°C for 40 minutes, tubers of water yam (D. alata) infested by the nematode Scutellonema bradys completely suppressed the nematode without adversely affecting the storage life, germination, growth and yield of the tubers.
Although application of N.P.K. and nemagon completely suppressed the nematode, nemagon significantly reduced the yield of water yam.
The use of organic manure gave the highest yield and considerably suppressed the nematode.
Mixture of 1,2-dichlorpropane and 1,3-dichlorptopene (D-D) did not increase yield or reduce population of S. bradys.
Wood ash increased yield but was only slightly effective in reducing nematode population.
