Hotspots and trends analysis of research on jujube (Ziziphus Mill.) based on bibliometric analysis of Web of Science, CNCK, and PubMed database (2000-2022)

Abstract
With roughly 170 species, jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is the Rhamnaceae family’s most economically and ecologically significant genus.
To track the papers on Jujube included in SCI (Science Citation Index), help researchers grasp the research trends and progress, and improve the literature retrieval efficiency, we used the journal literature from 2000 to 2022 in the Web of Science, CNCK, and PubMed databases as data sources.
The findings revealed that 2,545 SCI publications on jujube were published globally between 2000 and 2022. The articles mainly focused on four species: Chinese jujube (or Chinese date, Z. jujuba), Indian jujube or Ber (Z. mauritiana), Z. spina-christi, and Z. nummularia, with 1519, 177, 99, and 34 articles, respectively.
The articles were published in 912 journals, and the top five were the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Food Chemistry, Scientia Horticulture, Hortscience, and Plant Disease.
Nature Communications is the top-tier journal publishing jujube paper.
Currently, 890 research institutions are working on jujube distributed in 79 countries, among which China, India, Iran, South Korea, and Pakistan ranked the top five.
China published 1,187 papers, mainly on Chinese jujube, and a certain number of papers on Z. spina-christi and Z. mauritiana, India published 191 articles, focusing on Z. mauritiana. Moreover, the number of researchers engaged in Ziziphus Mill. reached 2,577 in 2022, and the top five are Liu Mengjun, Wang Min, Duan Jinao, Zhao Jin, and Guo Sheng.
Based on the cooperation analysis, research on fruit quality and nutrition, as well as cultivation and breeding, were the hot spots in jujube research.
Basic research has developed rapidly in the past five years, but there is a lack of communication and cooperation between institutions.
In the future, industrial structure and scientific research can be strongly integrated, and more in-depth research can be carried out to achieve a high-end, intelligent, and green industry.
