Abstract
Chinese date represents a relatively new species introduced in the Romanian fruit growing field, and has gained the appreciation of more and more consumers and farmers.
At the Faculty of Horticulture in Bucharest, an acclimatization program has been running for almost 30 years.
The collection of foreign cultivars, selections, and genotypes has increased, and some of them are tested in small plots in the country, too.
The current paper aims to introduce the first Romanian jujube cultivar in the assortment and to present its main characteristics. ‘Ziprim’ is a vigorous cultivar with a high yield and big fruits (over 20 g). It is a very early cultivar; the first pick starts in late August, and the first days of September are in the climatic conditions of the southeast part of Romania.
Due to a very small incidence of rain in the harvest period, the cracking of the fruits is avoided.
A descriptive morphological features of the tree (leaves, flowers, twigs) and physical and chemical parameters (fruit size, shape, firmness, sugar, acid content, TSS) are provided.
