Fruit quality of some jujube genotypes grown at RIFG Pitești, Romania

Abstract
Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees in the world.
It originated in China with good environmental adaptation, early bearing, easy management, and nutritious fruits.
In the last 25 years, Chinese jujubes have also started to be cultivated and studied in Romania, and some consumers appreciate the fruits.
The paper presents the results regarding the physical and chemical properties of five jujube genotypes: ‘Lang’, ‘Li’, and ‘Tigertooth’ cultivars originated from China, and the ‘ZS01-02’ and ‘ZS01-13’ selections originated from Romania.
The genotypes are placed in a field trial established in 2018, planted at a 3×3 m randomized block with three repetitions (3 plants genotype-1 repetition-1). During the 2020-2022 period, the following determinations were carried out: fruit weight (g), stones weight (g), flesh firmness (HPE units), soluble solids content (°Brix), titratable acidity (%), Vitamin C content (mg 100 g-1 of fresh weight) and total polyphenol content (mg GAE kg-1 of fresh weight). The indicators were recorded on a sample of 30 fruits  genotypes-1. Results showed some significant differences: the average fruit weight recorded values between 6.01 g (‘ZS01-02’) and 23.30 g (‘Li’); the average stone weight varied between 0.63 g (‘ZS01-02’) and 1.36 g (‘ZS01-13’); the firmness had values between 48.82 HPE units (‘Tigertooth’) and 72.72 HPE units (‘ZS01-02’); soluble solids content varied between 24.47°Brix (‘Li’) and 28.30°Brix (‘Tigertooth’); titratable acidity increased from 0.40% (‘Lang’) to 0.66% (‘ZS01-02’.); Vitamin C content ranged from 217.60 mg 100 g-1 (‘ZS01-13’) and 378.51 mg 100 g-1 (‘ZS01-02’); total polyphenol content ranged from 6,089.44 mg GAE kg-1 (‘ZS01-13’) to 13,106.72 mg GAE kg-1 (‘Tigertooth’). The results are important as part of Romania’s standard data set for jujube fruit cultivation.
