APOMIXIS IN PORTUGUESE WALNUT VARIETIES

We supposed that the high and regular production of the Rego var., have been influenced by the apomixis.
The embryo obtained from apomixis is formed in the absence of fecundation.

The experiment in Alcobaça Research Station was carried out with 20 trees of the Portuguese Rego var. with 689 isolated flowers for apomixis test.

Fruits coming from isolation were picked in different states of development, fixed and filtered into parafin, for cuts in the microtome.

The growth of the apomitic fruits was 7% and the final production 4.6%.
