WALNUT GERMPLASM IN CHINA
Walnuts are important economic crops and widely spreading in China which is one of the major countries for walnut production.
Walnuts spread almost all over China except Northern cold areas and some areas along middle or lower Yangtze River. Walnuts are extensively grown over Yun-gui Plateau, the edge areas of Talimu Basin, Qinba Moustains, Taihang Mountains, Luliang Mountains and Yanshan Mountains.
Beijing, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Xijiang and Sichuan and so on, are important areas for Walnut production in China.
More crop come from four provinces: Shaanxi, Shanxi, Yunnan and Hebei, Huairou, Meitougou of Beijing, Loulong, Shexian of Hebei, Licheng of Shandong, Fenyang, Xiaoyi of Shanxi, Yangbi of Yunnan, Bijie of Guizhou, Hetian, Kashi and Akesu of Xinjiang, etc are well-known areas for Walnut production.
China produces walnuts more than 100,000 ton yearly, close to Turkey’s.
Walnuts are traditional exportation of China, more or less every year, and play an important role in the international Market.
