Abstract
When planning the mechanisation of walnut production one has to consider some characteristics of the plantation quite different from a stone fruit plantation.
These are:
These are:
- long distance between the rows (8–10m)
- the planned life span of the orchard is 50–60 years, during which time the trees might grow 7–8m high, the diameter of the trunks might approach 500–600mm and the crown diameter might approach 8 m.
- there can be an important diversity of maturation within the fruits the same tree,
- the harvested nuts need further processing since only hulled nuts with a 10–14% water contentcan be stored and sold.
These factors influence the working quality and productivity of the machines of plant protection, tree forming, harvesting and processing.
The machines exhibited at the Boglárlelle show are the ones we have found suitable to fulfill the requirements of a modern walnut operation and also suit the Hungarian environment.
For plant protection we have found suitable the low-built self-propelled, Italian machine Tifone 2085 because of its constructional and spraying abilities.
With 25000m3 h-1 air volume, 60ms-1 air speed, equipped with a spraying cannon, this machine can blow very fine drops into the inert and to the higher of the crown.
