THE KERNEL MOULD OF THE WALNUT/JUGLANS REGIA L./
Characteristics of its flowering process and fertilization are determined by several ecological and genetic factors.
Without doubt fruit set is highly influenced by various phytopathogenic fungi.
This problem has not been entirely examined in Hungary so far, is a result of our investigations it was concluded that this disease of the walnut was caused by – among other saprophytic and parasitic micro fungi – the pathogen Alternaria nucis MOESZ.
Samples collected from the region "Nyirség" and Tündervölgy/Transylvania/were damaged at a level of 12,0 % and 7,0 %, respectively.
Symptoms, appeared on the nutshell, septum lobes and the developing fruit were described.
The pathogen was examined, the detailed morphology was described and the asexual reproductive organs were measured.
According to 100 measurements the average size of the co- nidia was
24,8 /21,4 – 29,8 / x 18,8 / 14,8 – 21,6 / μm.
The optimum temperature for the fungus is 20,0 °C.
It was observed that the nut was infected by Alternaria nucis MOESZ on the stigma, the ruptures of the peduncle, injuries og the epicarpium and the spots damaged by pests /e. g.
Cydia pomonella/
