IMAGE ANALYSIS OF APRICOT GENETIC RESOURCES FOR BREEDING AND SELECTION

The development of a new system for evaluation and evidence of a plant germplasm forms part of the programm with the title ‘Conservation of endangered plant germplasm in Slovakia’. The first version of the system was developed for a collection of strawberries.
Our version GENOTYPDATA ARMENIACA consists of 14 parties split into 3 groups: system, taxonomy, biology, stress, chemical compounds, descriptor list, genotype, literature, directory, variability, relax, image documentation, dictionary, help.

The first group of GENOTYPDATA ARMENIACA for example consists of a descriptor list for evaluation of biological, anatomic-morphological and economical characters.
The main group is formed by a database with its characteristic of individual genotypes with images.
The third group carries a list of genotypes, dictionary of institutions where the collections of apricots are maintained and a terminological dictionary in five languages.

This research was carried out to determine the possibility of the image analysis on apricot germplasm.
A collection of 150 apricot cultivars, hybrids, local types and clones was tested.
By an S-VHS video camera pictures of dormant shoot, bud break shoot, flowers, fruits, stones and leaves were recorded.
The images we obtained were stored in a computer after being digitalized.

Our special database is being prepared on a cd Rom and will be available through Internet in Slovak and English version for students and research workers.
