THE REACTION TO PHYTOPLASMA INFECTION OF DIFFERENT APRICOT (PRUNUS ARMENIACA L.) CULTIVARS
Trees die rather fast after infection and contamination rate is high in certain cases, thus justifying the scientific approach of this topic.
67 apricot cultivars and 1831 hybrids descendants belonging to 48 families have been tested by Dienes method in Romania during 1990–1995.
Accurate identification of phytoplasma in phloem vessels was performed by the electron microscopy procedure.
The infection level was noted by scores from 0 to 5, where 0 represented no phytoplasma symptom, and 5 for phenotypes with dried branches.
The apricot varieties without Phytoplasma infection or symptoms were: Canada 60023, Harlayne, Dacia, Comandor, Litoral, Earlyril,77.3.52 BV, 77.4.13 BV, 77.3.56 BV, 77.4.77. BV and others.
These results assessed phytoplasma absence in some hybrid families: Sulina x IABC, Mektep x Don Gaetano, Mektep x Early Orange, B 16/7 x C3R1T85, B20/40 x Goldrich and Stella x Excelsior.
