THE ECP/GR PRUNUS WORKING GROUP: A COLLABORATIVE ACTION PROGRAMME FOR PRUNUS GENETIC RESOURCES IN EUROPE
Subsequently, the Nordic Gene Bank agreed to be responsible for the European Prunus data base.
Basic passport data for individual accessions throughout Europe were collated through crop coordinators and a first edition of the European Prunus lists was published in September 1985. Prunus descriptors were published.
Emergency collecting was undertaken by European institutes, in some cases with IBPGR support.
The Group met for the second time in October 1985, reviewed its programme and issued recommendations for further registration of data on existing Prunus accessions.
The European Prunus catalogues will be published in 1988.
The objectives of the Group concerning cultivated Prunus are being met; special efforts are now being directed towards studies of wild species.
The third meeting of the Group, planned for 1988, will have to issue recommendations for collaborative action in this field.
The paper places the activities of the ECP/GR Prunus Working Group in a global context.
