THE INHERITANCE OF SOME TRAITS IN F1 SOUR CHERRY HYBRIDS
More than 3000 hybrids were investigated.
The hybrids were heterozygous.
There was found to be a large degree of variability in fruits, leaves, tree habit, crown form, kind of fruit bearing branchlets, resistance to important diseases and tolerance to frost and drought.
Some new characters in the hybrids occured, which were recessive in their parents.
In our experimental work we selected about 40 positive sour cherry hybrids.
The description of the best two hybrids followes.
Hybrid H3 – the fruits are very large /mass 6.6–10.2 g/ on long pedicels /42–59 mm/. The juice is red and contains 10.1–13.8% dry matter.
The tree is medium vigorous.
The crown is wide pyramidal.
It bears fruits on long branchlets.
The leaves and flowers are large.
The characters of the fruit are inherited dominantly from ‘Pandy’ and the fruit maturity is inherited from ‘Lot’ sour cherry variety.
It is resistant to some important diseases.
Hybrid H4 – the fruits are large /mass 5.8–8.0 g/ on short pedicels /30–40 mm/. The juice is dark red and contains 9.5–15.7% dry matter.
The tree is medium vigorous.
The crown is wide pyramidal.
It bears fruits on long branchlets.
The leaves and flowers are large.
The tree is resistant to some important diseases.
The hybrid inherites dominantly the fruit traits of ‘Pandy’ and the branchlet lenght of Lot sour cherry.
