Abstract
Since 1961 3 cycles of clonal selection have been realized in the commercial apricot variety Velkopavlovická. A total of 14 clones were selected with high bearing potential and improved biological and economic properties compared with the control groups.
Using these clones it is possible to raise the harvest yield of the Velkopavlovická variety by 19–51 % in station and pilot plant trials and by at least 20 % in commercial conditions.
It is recommended to plant at least 4 clones a one site in a mixture or in blocks with a maximum width of 50–60 m.
The first cycle clones were the starting material for establishing propagating houses for buds and scions in the CSSR. At present, new production plantations have been started from these clones.
Selected clones of the second and third cycles are being tested for plasticity on more than one site within the CSSR. Selected clones have been tested for commercially significant virus diseases.
In view of the temporarilly limited effectiveness of clonal selection, continuation of best clone selection is required.
