Abstract
Bacterial leaf blight (BLB) caused by Pseudomonas chicorii (Swingle) Stapp., is one of the serious diseases in chrysanthemums.
The present study was conducted to evaluate the potential of antagonistic bacteria for plant growth promotion and disease suppression of bacterial leaf blight (Pseudomonas cichorii) in chrysanthemum.
A total of 27 antagonistic bacteria were isolated and screened against 2 prevalent strains of bacterial leaf blight in the laboratory and glasshouse of Indonesian Ornamental Crops Research Institute (IOCRI). The results showed that three antagonist bacteria, namely Pf 1.1, Pf.
Irana and Pf.
Slada2 had antagonistic potential (zone of inhibition 1.43-1.99 mm) and effectively suppressed P. cichorii under in vitro and in vivo conditions.
The three antagonists were compatible against each other and consistently effective to control the pathogen.
The combination of Pf.
Irana and Pf. 1.1 showed 52.1% higher disease suppression and 17.1% lower disease intensity.
The application of these antagonist combinations also contributed to 9.1% higher harvestable flower production compared to the control treatment.
