Abstract
The variabilities of anthurium flowers can be enhanced through conventional breeding.
The objectives of the research were to determine the morphological variations in the F1 population of anthurium and examine their suitability for potted plants or cut flower.
The study was conducted at the Indonesian Ornamental Crops Research Institute, from January until December 2019. There were two anthurium F1 populations namely the MA population generated from the crossing of Anthurium Midori × Angel cultivars and TS from the crossing of Anthurium Tivoli × Sempre cultivars.
Generally, the MA population, which have white spate, is more suitable for cut flowers.
The TS population, which has a red spathe, is more appropriate for pot plants.
Both populations showed the variation in the color of spathe, spadix, and flower size.
There were 26 progenies in the MA population, two of them (MA-16 and MA-27) had been selected as superior progenies.
From 81 progenies evaluated in TS population, two of them had been selected, i.e., TS-27 and TS-6.
