Abstract
The cultivation of the genus Lagerstroemia represents a notable achievement in various aspects.
These plants can be readily propagated in nurseries.
Their extended blooming season, diverse growth forms, and extensive palette of flower colors render them versatile for numerous applications.
Advanced breeding methodologies yield a broad spectrum of genetic resources that are adaptable to cooler climates.
The primary objective of these breeding efforts is to develop new cultivars that possess desirable traits, including flower color and timing, plant dimensions and morphology, heat resilience, as well as resistance to diseases and pests.
The breeding programs for Lagerstroemia. aim to clarify the heritability of these characteristics while enhancing their genetic diversity through various techniques such as hybridization, mutation, or molecular genetics.
