Abstract

Agriculture has consistently evolved to address the pressing challenge of feeding a growing global population.
In recent decades, biotechnology has emerged as a transformative driver of innovation, enabling significant improvements in crop yields, pest and disease resistance, and environmental sustainability (Food and Agricultural Organization, 2019). The integration of scientific advancements into agricultural practices is fostering more efficient, resilient, and sustainable food production systems.
This manuscript provides a legal-technical analysis of the intersection between intellectual property (IP) protection and biotechnology in agriculture, with particular emphasis on genetically modified (GM) crops within the European Union.
It examines the protection of biotechnological processes, methods, and products, and assesses the dynamic regulatory landscape and forthcoming legislative developments that shape the commercialization and market access of these crops.
