Abstract
Gladiolus corms var.
Eurovision were chosen for our study.
The corms were subjected to
– irradiation doses at 0.0, 125, 250, 500 and 1000 rad.
Other corms were soaked in Ethephon at 0.0, 125, 250, 500 and 1000 ppm.
After 45 days from planting, half of the plants in all treatments were sprayed with 50 ppm GA. The main results were:

After 45 days from planting, half of the plants in all treatments were sprayed with 50 ppm GA. The main results were:
- The lower doses of
– irradiation and the lower concentrations of Ethephon increased the percentage and rate of sprouting emergence.
- The study showed internal changes in auxins, gibberellins and inhibitors content of corms correlated with the consequential stages of sprout development and emergence.
- Gradual disappearance of inhibitors associated with gradual increase in the level of auxins and gibberellins was observed as the corms were planted and sprouting proceeded.
- The improved sprouting at lower stimulative
– irradiation doses was associated with increases in the auxins and gibberellins activities and the disappearance of inhibitors.
- The activity of auxins and gibberellins tended to decrease and the inhibitors increased in the extract of corms by soaking in Ethephon.
- The
– irradiation and the growth regulators affected the growth and flowering.
