Abstract
A simulation model for the growth and development of the tulip cv.
Apeldoorn can be used for either simulating the whole growing season of the tulip (controlling) or yield prediction (speculative). For yield prediction the model starts after the middle of May, i.e. the main stream of assimilates is directed to the developing bulblets.
Apeldoorn can be used for either simulating the whole growing season of the tulip (controlling) or yield prediction (speculative). For yield prediction the model starts after the middle of May, i.e. the main stream of assimilates is directed to the developing bulblets.
The main variables in the model are temperatures, both soil and air, and global radiation.
For predicting the yield the following combinations are used: low soil – and air temperatures combined with either high – or low global radiation; high soil – and air temperatures combined with either high – or low global radiation.
During the growing season actual temperatures and global radiation are substituted into the model.
So the later in the growing season, the more the yield is based on actual data.
It turns out that the temperature has more influence on the yield than the global radiation.
The results of the prediction for 1985 will be on display and discussed.
