Forcing of precooled bulbs, 12 weeks at +5°C, begab in a glasshouse on December 1st, December 15th, January 2nd, January 15th and February 1st.
In the cutting stage, height of shoot, length of flower, fresh weight of shoot, number of flowering plants and duration of forcing period were examined.
Colour and quality of flower and stiffness of stem was also compared.
Three cultivars of tulips: ‘Olenka’, ‘Sybilla’, and ‘Sabadiana’ appeared not to be useful for 5°C forcing.
Eleven other cultivars were considered as useful for forcing in some of the five compared terms.
Single Early cultivar, Triumph cultivars and Darwin Hybrid cultivars bloomed better in early terms of forcing but Darwin cultivars – in later terms. january 2nd was the best term for the beginning of forcing all the evaluated cultivars.
