GROWTH HORMONE INDUCED ROOT SYSTEM TYPES IN CUTTINGS OF SOME BROAD LEAVED TREE SPECIES
Without any hormone treatment cuttings of juvenile trees form plagiotropic roots only near the base of the cuttings.
Application of IAAP 0.5 % increases rooting percentage.
Root system type is similar to the former one.
Application of IBA 0.5 % + Euparen 10 % leads to a compact root system with a high number of main roots originating in a broad cortex area above the base with insignificant callus formation.
Growth hormone treatment reduces callus formation at the cutting base.
IBA-treatment shows lowest percentage of callus.
Callus is not the originating point of roots.
It seems that callus is an alternative direction of development independent of later root formation.
Juvenility of cutting material and an optimated culture system respectively show similar characteristics of root system and callus formation.
