Dr.
Verhage is difficult to propagate by conventional methods due to poor rootability of its cuttings. In vitro production of microcuttings which root easily can be employed instead.
The formation of microcuttings, in general, can be greatly enhanced by tipping the initial shoot explants (Bressan et al., 1982) and by successive transfers of the basal clump of tissue on fresh medium after each harvest (Standardi, 1982; Xiao-Shan and Mullins, 1984). Apical dominance regulating substances incorporated into the medium might be used in order to eliminate manual tipping of rose shoot explants.
In this context the effects of lauric acid methyl ester (MELA) and 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid (TIBA) were investigated.
