Abstract
Turkey is a part of the vast area of native land for walnut (Jugland regia L.) species, millions of trees are grown spontaneously and determine very rich walnut propagation has been done by seed in many countries as in Turkey, for years.
However, recently walnuts have started being propagated by grafting in Europe and specially in U.S.A. Therefore, standard cultivars were obtained through selection methods.
In Turkey, walnut selection program started long since and until 1989 out of millions of walnut trees 116 biotypes were selected.

Out of these 116 biotypes, due to their higher quality, high kernel ratio, high yield, homogeneous ripening etc. 9 cultivars were selected.
