Abstract
The walnut breeding programme at the ISF of Rome is mainly concerned with the evaluation of cultivars, selections and local phenotypes, coming from different regions of the country, in order to single out plants improving the characteristics of the most cultivated varieties.
Among the observed phenotypes, the cultivar Malizia, obtained from an open pollinated Sorrento seedling, is very interesting for some agronomical and technological aspects: early bearing and ripening, high productivity and good fruit quality-fruits are bigger, kernel is lighter in colour and not-spotted, kernel is 46–49 % in weight of nut.
This new cv Malizia is already commercially well appreciated.
