STUDY STIMULATION OF LATERAL FRUITFULLNESS ON WALNUT CULTIVARS (J. REGIA L.) HARTLEY AND FRANQUETTE WITH CYTOKININS USE OR THE APICAL BUD CUTTING OFF.
The treatments which are used for the remove or erasure of apical dominance were to cut off the apical bud initially and in the next stage to use cytokinins.
The treatments were applied just at the end of the vegetation period, in July, and the effect of treatments were to concern the following year’s production.
The treatments of apical bud cutting off in July stimulated a high percentage of lateral fruitfullness on the HARTLEY cultivar.
Also on the FRANQUETTE cultivar the fruitfullness increased as a result of stimulation of the flower bud formation on the two buds under the apical bud.
The cutting off more than one bud under the apical bud gave results with a lower percentage of lateral fruitfullness than apical bud cutting off.
Particularly this cutting off one bud under the apical bud of FRANQUETTE cultivar gave a lower percentage than the control (the stem without treatments).
When the experiments were repeated in 1990, with the apical bud cutting off and BA (benzyladenine) application in 10, 100 PPM concentration added, the following results were obtained.
The apical bud cutting off gave the same results as the 1989 treatments, the concentration of 10 PPM BA (benzyladenine) made no difference to the results in relation the control and the concentration of 100 PPM BA (benzyladenine) gave clear lateral fruitfullness in both cultivars.
