A STUDY ON THE SELECTION OF DARANDE WALNUTS

Abstract
In the Darende and around, 200 high quality walnut types were determined by pre-selection in 1990–1991. Fruit samples were taken from these walnut types and the best to walnut types determined according to average nut weight, kernel percent and shell thickness.
In the selected types average nut weight has been found between 15–36 g and 20.05 g kernel percent has been found between 6.87 g and 10.40 g and shell thickness has been found between 0.88 and 1.02 mm.

In the 95 walnut types that were determined by second selection, 69 types were protandrous, 13 types were protogynous and 13 types were homogamous.
