Abstract
During this introductory lecture, I will present a monograph of the Chenin grape variety that will review the current ampelographic knowledge of this variety and address the following aspects: origin and homonymy, botanical characteristics, agronomic value (phenology, physiology, adaptation to different terroirs, rootstocks, susceptibility to diseases and pests), technological value, intra-varietal diversity, clones and perspectives of varietal improvement.
