Abstract
The cultivation of horticultural species (vegetables, potatoes, trees, vines) has been a basic livelihood of our country’s inhabitants due to the “existing” favorable pedo-climatic conditions.
The Horticultural research has kept pace with the development of the biological, economic, social, and other agricultural sciences.
Through successive knowledge acquisition from one stage to another, constant progress has been ensured in this important sector.
The development of the scientific research in horticulture has been divided into three main stages: “Stage 1927-1957” of research at the Romanian Institute of Agronomic Research (ICAR); “Stage 1957-1967” of research carried out in a specialized institute, the Institute of Horticultural Research (ICHV); “Stage 1967-present (2024)” carried out in the six specialized institutes: vegetable and flower growing, potato growing, fruit growing, viticulture and oenology, biotechnology in horticulture and the valorization of horticultural products.
