Abstract
Wine is a drink that has been consumed since ancient times, on all occasions, all over the world.
Wine is a complement to human society.
It is a natural alcoholic beverage obtained through the fermentation of grape juice, which is important in human nutrition.
Wine quality is given by a set of sensory, physical-chemical, and biological properties, to the extent that the wine corresponds to the consumers’ desires.
The variability and complexity of Romania’s geographical landscape determine important differences in terms of wine quality and terroir.
The area is classified as a moderately temperate continental climate.
The Drăgășani vineyard is part of the Muntenia and Oltenia Hills Wine Region.
The collection of vine germplasm from the Research and Development Station for Vine Culture and Winemaking in Drăgășani is part of the germplasm treasury of Romanian vine culture.
Within this Research Station, a series of wine grape genotypes were obtained: ‘Selected Crâmpoșie’, ‘Novac’, ‘Negru de Drăgășani’, table grape genotypes: ‘Victoria’, ‘Azur’, ‘Călina’, and ‘American-American’ hybrid rootstocks ‘Drăgășani 57’, ‘Drăgășani 70’. The vineyards in this area are recognized for producing quality red and white wines, some of which are recognized and awarded at international competitions.
Also, in recent times, the Drăgășani area has become well known for the many wineries that are part of enological tourism and for the many traditional festivals that mark the end of grape harvesting.
