Abstract
The Portuguese Association for Horticultural Science (APH) is a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to developing the field of horticulture with approximately 400 members, including industry, researchers, teachers, technicians, and students.
APH has been at the forefront since its establishment in 1976, and its main objective is to explore horticultural science, foster dialog, and pioneer innovative solutions across various domains within the field.
At APH, we take a comprehensive approach to horticulture, including fruit crops, vineyards, winemaking, olive groves, and oil production, as well as herbaceous and ornamental horticulture and aromatic, medicinal, and condimental plants.
APH organizes meetings, workshops, seminars, symposia, and congresses.
The proceedings are published in ‘Actas Portuguesas de Horticultura’. Furthermore, through articles, reviews, and interviews, our quarterly publication, “Revista da APH”, provides an example of enlightening the most recent advancements and findings in horticulture in Portugal and around the world.
APH has a collaborative philosophy that extends beyond borders, as we maintain strong relationships with national and international scientific and technical societies.
It is essential the cooperation with other scientific societies, such as the Spanish Society of Horticultural Sciences (SECH), Latin-American Horticulture Confederation (CLAH), and the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS). Membership within APH confers benefits, including access to four free issues of our periodical annually, opportunities for publication of technical papers, and, most significantly, integration into a community of experts.
This joint serves as a facilitator for collaboration, empowering members to plan, participate in, and drive forward initiatives aimed at pushing the frontiers of horticultural science and technology.
In the 48 years that APH has been in operation, the industry has evolved tremendously and diversely.
Social media and regional technical assistance are used to communicate with members and partners.
