Abstract
The association was founded in 1990 in Cluj-Napoca on the initiative of Prof.
Dr.
Eng.
Wagner Ștefan.
The first objectives settled are also valid today: promoting knowledge related to the rose culture; information on the methods of propagation, cultivation, and use of roses; organization of exhibitions, symposia, practical demonstrations on the history and classification of roses, methods of care and cultivation; publishing a magazine; affiliation with the World Federation of Rose Societies.
If the association had 30 members at the beginning, their number later increased to 1,800. The association comprises both amateurs and professionals, representing a diverse range of professions, from pupils and students to pensioners. Ștefan Wagner, the first president of the association, was actively involved in international participation, delivering lectures at international congresses and serving as vice-president of the federation for Eastern Europe.
Today, the association has around 500 members.
Local genotype collections, breeding activities with Romanian cultivars, participation in international events, and promoting the Rosa genus with specific ambitions for the future are all continually pursued.
