Abstract
Romanians have known and loved flowers since the beginning of their existence, becoming flower-loving people, as recorded in numerous documents.
The assortment of flowering plants has undergone continuous diversification over time, resulting from both selection and breeding activities, as well as imports.
Romanian floriculture in the period preceding 1989 was able to meet the domestic demand for flowers.
However, immediately after the collapse of the communist system, a noticeable decline in production was registered, as the flower market was quickly dominated by imported ornamental plants and cut flowers.
Today, however, we are witnessing a revival of floriculture due to the emergence of new private companies as well as the takeover by countries with a tradition in this sector of a rich varietal assortment of ornamental plants and modern culture technologies.
