Abstract
With this paper, we aimed to study the historical past, traditions, and multi-century experience in the field of vine cultivation on the lands of Arad, particularly in the famous Miniș-Măderat vineyard, located on the hills at the western edge of the Zărand Mountains, between the rivers Mureș and Crișul Alb.
This work is addressed not only to specialists in the field of viticulture and oenology, but also to a broader public who wish to learn about the historical evolution of one of the oldest and most enduring agricultural occupations of the Romanian people.
Viticulture has always been, par excellence, an occupation that could only be practised by sedentary peoples with a more advanced civilisation.
In the paper, issues related to the development of knowledge in the field of viticultural technique, the production capacities of the vineyards of Arad at different stages, the development of the production of viticultural planting material, the assortment of old and new cultivars created locally, the valorisation of viticultural production, the beginnings and development of education and research in the field of viticulture were dealt with.
