Abstract
Founded in 1893, Istrița represents one of Romania’s most prestigious fruit nurseries. “Distinguished Lady” of the Romanian fruit-growing industry, Istrița has preserved a vibrant spirit based on many generations of horticulturists who served with sacrifice and devotion throughout her long history.
The present study highlights the key points, beginning with the initial coordination of the nursery by Constantin Nicoară and August Joseph Ville.
In 1902, a professional school for grafting for local youngsters was established and recognized, and even today, it is known for its professionalism.
The study follows the personalities involved as they build step by step, simultaneously with the experimental fields, rootstocks, and mother plants.
Stating the mission – leading fruit industry innovation through science and hi-tech, Istrița Fruit Research & Development Station remains one of the most prestigious fruit nurseries of Romania.
