Abstract
The vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) status of kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa (A. Chev.) Liang & Ferguson) was investigated in orchards located in Piedmont (Italy), taking soil and root samples at different times of the year.
The presence of mycorrhizae in the survey area was widespread; the fungal species identified were Glomus macrocarpum Tul. & Tul., G. monosporum Gerd. & Trappe, G. occultum Walker and a strain similar to G. fasciculatum (Thaxter sensu Gerd.) Gerd. & Trappe.
These species were the same already observed in the same area on other hosts.
Spore numbers were higher in spring and decreased later in the growing season.
Infection in roots was mainly arbuscular; root colonization was observed at all sampling dates throughout the year.
