A SURVEY OF RECENT STUDIES ON ACTINIDIA SPECIES IN CHINA
They are distributed over vast mountainous regions and hilly districts, that is from 18° North to about 50° North and from 90° to around 130° East.
Their vertical distribution is between 350–3500m above sea level.
Actinidia chinensis originated from the Yangtze River valley and is now distributed between 23–24° North and 400–1800m above sea level in the mountainous areas of the sub-tropical zone.
The estimated annual yield of fresh Actidindia fruits amounts to 150 million kgs of which about 15 million kgs are from Zhejiang Province. Actinidia chinensis is adapted to a mild and humid climate, and porous fertile soil.
Percentage germination was enhanced by outdoor stratification.
The survival rate of cuttings can be raised to 81.8–98.8% by treatment with IBA. The key to success with in vitro propagation is to create optimum temperature and humidity conditions for rooted plants, and to choose suitable soil.
Majority of the bearing shoots were concentrated at 4–7 nodes.
This fruiting habit provides a scientific basis for pruning.
The application of Actinidia chinensis to medicine also produces good effects in interrupting nitroso morpholine, which is a cancer-inducing substance, and in curing short breath, stuffing chest, coughing, etc.
