Abstract
The successful development of staminate flower’s ovaries was obtained by mean of tissue culture techniques.
Pollen tetrads were formed in anthers from abortive stamens, but never viable pollen grains appeared; embryogenic calluses were produced by the connective tissue of anthers.
Male plants bearing flowers of variable ovary’s development or self-fertile flowers and "fruitful male plants" were described in orchards of Southwestern France.
The permanence of sex bio-chemical properties related to peroxidases was detected in tissue cultures and preliminary results of a simple peroxidase test for seedling’s sex screening are discussed.
