Abstract
The italian carnation growers are trying to concentrate the flower production at some specific periods of the year, instead of having different peaks of production spread all over the year.

With the aim of achieving this result and of eliminating the manual pinching of the plants several experiments on the use of growth regulators have been carried out in Sanremo (Northern Italy).

In the first experiment 6-BA at the rate of 50 ppm has been sprayed 1,2,3 times during rooting phase and at transplanting on the variety Pauline.
In the second experiment the effect of 6-BA has been compared with that of zeatin, zeatin riboside and kinetin in promoting lateral shoot formation.
Data have been collected on the number and on quality of the flowers produced.
