GROWTH RETARDATION OF POTTED PLANTS CULTIVATED IN WATER CULTURE, WITH ANCYMIDOL APPLIED TO THE NUTRIENT SOLUTION

It is possible to retard the growth of the pot plants Beloperone guttata T. S. Brandegee, Clerodendrum thomsoniae Balf. f. and Crossandra infundibuliformis Nees ‘Mona Wallhed’ cultivated in water culture with ancymidol mixed into the recirculating nutrient solution.

Further experiments with C. thomsoniae showed that a soil drench and applying to the nutrient solution require about the same amount of ancymidol.
With a foliar spray much more ancymidol per pot plant is needed to get the same degree of growth retardation.

Residues of ancymidol are analysed in an experiment with Aeschynanthus speciosus Hook grown in water culture.
After 3 weeks there are still about 20% of the original amount of ancymidol remained in the recirculating nutrient solution.
