Abstract
A review is given of research on flower development and stemelongation of some bulbous plants in relation to growth substances and other organs.

It was found that sink-source relationships exist between the main shoot, the daughter bulbs and the mother bulbscales.
The growth of the flower bud and the central daughter bulb could be increased by cytokinins and of the flower bud also by GA3 and GA4+7. Increase of the growth of either of these reduced the growth of the other one.
Besides the bulbscales the young leaves contribute to the development of the flower bud.
Removal of leaves could be overcome by GA and BA application to the flower bud.
Ethylene and cytokinins affect apical dominance relations within bulbs.

Elongation of the stem depends on auxins originating from the complete flower, the gynoecium, the leaves and the stem itself.
The underlying response mechanism shows a temperature dependent degree of sensitivity to auxins and a sequence rhythm of its own.
