Abstract
Recently evidence has increased for both short and long distance transport of polyamines in higher plants.
Most of the polyamines taken up by the cells are absorbed by the cell wall, except putrescine.
Due to these interferences with the cell wall, the need arose to study uptake into protoplasts.
Protoplasts and vacuoles accumulated polyamines within 1 to 2 minutes.
A compartmentation analysis showed that exogenously applied spermidine could be recovered inside the cells.
