Abstract
In southeastern Romania, the Vegetable Research and Development Station Buzau (V.R.D.S. Buzau) holds a germplasm collection presenting over 450 accessions.
This collection was cultivated in 2020, in greenhouse covered with polyethylene.
The maintenance of this collection must accomplish the following requirements: maintaining the variability of this species (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), creating new varieties and adaptability to the climate changes in what it concerns these accessions.
This paper presents the comparative study of 10 climbing bean seeds accessions.
The seeds of each accession were evaluated regarding their quantitative (100 seed weight, length, thickness and width) and qualitative characteristics (seed color, brilliance, veining and shape). The mean weight of 100 seeds was 45.06 g and varied between 32.97 g (V1) and 64.32 g (V8). A similar situation was observed for width measurements, V1 (6.39 mm) and V8 (9.59 mm). More than half of the seeds variants taken into study, presented different colors, except V2, V3, V7 and V10 (which are white). Thus, there were 2 varieties presenting beige shades (V5 and V6), brown (V1), white with black around the hillum (V4), beige with streaks (V8) and 2 colors – half white, half dark red (V9). All studied accessions presented stability during the last growing seasons.
