Bulgarian Phaseolus genebank collection assesed by EURISCO passport descriptors

Common bean is the most important edible food legume for direct human consumption in the world.
The European Phaseolus database contains 57,044 accessions, collected and stored in the national genebanks.
The study is focused to present the status of Bulgarian Phaseolus National Inventory.
According to the international standards, for all accessions registered in our collection were completed the passport data containing information on: accession number, genus, species, common crop name, collecting number, geographic coordinates, collecting and acquisition date, institute code, biological status of accession (wild, landraces, breeding material, advanced cultivar), collecting source (wild or cultivated habitat, research organization or genebank). The results show that the genebank collection in Sadovo presents high diversity of accessions with local origin (3,139 acc.). Assessment of Phaseolus National Inventory includes 4,232 accessions from 20 species.
The highest number of accessions belongs to Ph. vulgaris (3,835 acc.) and Ph. coccineous (269 acc.).
