A new garden chokeberry cultivar ‘Vseslava’: morphological and biochemical features

The richest source of bioflavonoids in the plant kingdom is the fruit of chokeberries from the Rosaceae family.
Chokeberry fruit is traditionally used in jellies, jams, and functional beverages.
It is also a natural colorant and a valuable source of antioxidant compounds, which are believed to have many health-promoting properties. ‘Vseslava’ is the first Ukrainian garden chokeberry cultivar.
It was included in the National Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2020. It is taxonomically × Sorbaronia fallax with lobed leaves, which distinguishes it from common varieties of Michurin’s chokeberry.
The fruits of ‘Vseslava’ are similar to those of the common chokeberry.
However, they are larger and more numerous in the infructescence.
There are an average of 24-38 fruits per corymb.
The average fruit weight is 1.5-2.0 g.
The fruits contain 4.7-9.4% sugars, 0.5-0.7% pectin, 1.4% organic acids, 12.2-40.9 mg 100 g^‑1 ascorbic acid, 1182-2266 mg 100 g^‑1 total polyphenols, 970 mg 100 g^‑1 flavonoids, 129.3-198.7 mg 100 g^‑1 anthocyanins, and 40.0-47.2 mg 100 g^‑1 chalcones.
