Genetic resources diversity of wild fruit species from different ecosystems in the southern area of Oltenia, Romania

Abstract
The present paper aimed to identify and investigate the genetic resources of wild fruit species from different ecosystems in the southern area of Oltenia.
As a result of the study, useful species were identified such as blackthorn, red and black hawthorn, European crab apple, wild pear, blackberry, dewberry, green strawberry, cornelian cherry, European hazelnut, elder and dog rose.
Determinations were made regarding the pomological characteristics of the genotypes, within each species, in terms of plant habit and growth characteristics.
The results obtained confirm a high genetic variability within each species, supported by the high values of the coefficient of variability, influenced by environmental factors, but also by the characteristics of the biotope and the composition of the biocenoses, with an important role in breeding programs regarding the selection of valuable biotypes from the point of view of adaptability and ecological plasticity to the current environmental conditions.
