Abstract
Hypotheses about the mode of action of chemical thinning sprays are discussed.
It is assumed that the various growth regulators used for apple fruit thinning interfere with endogenous hormones.
The literature dealing with this assumption is discussed and special emphasis is given to concerning the role of diffusible IAA in the thinning process.
