ETHYLENE RELEASE FROM PEACH HARDWOOD CUTTINGS AFTER TREATMENT FOR INCREASING ROOTING

Abstract
The increase of ethylene release in wounded peach hardwood cuttings treated with IBA seems to be due to the increase in IBA absorbed rather than "wound" ethylene formation.
Cobalt ions inhibited ethylene release which confirms that ethylene production in peach cuttings occurs through the methionine-S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) –>1-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid (ACC) metabolic pathway.
Although cuttings treated with ethephon or cobalt ions did not differ in percentage rooting, cuttings treated with cobalt ions produced a greater number of roots per cutting than the other treatments.
