Abstract
Oleuropein (Olp), isolated using a new preparative HPLC method, was found in bark, leaves, and foremost in green olives.
This terpenoid was biologically active at doses lower than 10-4 M in inhibiting flowering in Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, in stimulating rooting in Vigna radiata cuttings and in inducing irreversible stomatal closure in commelina communis bioassays.
Olp inhibited the growth and induced stomatal closure on small Olive potted trees and decreased Olive callus growth in remarkable extent (-62% at 10-5 M).
