Abstract
Paclobutrazol sprayed at 0, 250, 500 and 1000 ppm on one-shoot potted vines resulted in a strong proportional reduction of growth and leaf area.
Nevertheless, the dry matter, nitrogen and carbohydrates in the year’s mature canes were practically unaffected.
The retardant effects did not however persist the following year, when a new shoot was selected and left untreated.
On the contrary, the treated vines had a tendency to a higher vigour and the leaf area increased.
According to these two-year results, the possibility of controlling the vine vigour in a given year is discussed.
